Christine Ferguson began her nursing career in postpartum care in 1988 before transitioning to labor and delivery at a county teaching hospital in 1990. Although she loved birth work, the long shifts and hospital culture proved difficult while raising young children with a firefighter husband. She later moved into home healthcare for high-risk pregnancies (1993–1998) and then served as a high-risk OB case manager for an insurance company (1998–2003). After a break to focus on her family, she returned in 2006 to help children find pediatric care and stay current on vaccines—an experience that sparked a deeper questioning of the medical system. In 2009, she began teaching childbirth classes and soon realized how limited her early education about physiologic birth had been. Over time, she became a strong advocate for home birth, especially after witnessing her daughter’s beautiful home water birth in 2012. She eventually left hospital-based teaching, recognizing that true support for women’s autonomy was impossible within the medical system. Today, she is dedicated to helping women feel safe, respected, and empowered to trust their bodies’ innate ability to birth naturally.
